Polyneices then gathered a giantarmy and attacked Eteocles for the throne. As time passed, and the two sons aged, Eteocles claimed the throne forhimself, exiling his older brother Polyneices. Creon took over the thronebecause Oedipus’ two sons, Eteocles and Polyneices, were too young to becomerulers.

Oedipus left Thebes a blind and broken man. Oedipuswas banished from Thebes, when the prophecy of patricide and incest was proventrue. Creon was the ruler until Oedipus’ sons wereold enough to take the throne. Oedipus, who wassupposed to be the ruler of Thebes, was banished by Creon because he killed hisfather and married his brother. Thesetting of this tragedy takes place in the city of Thebes. When Polyneices attacks Eteocles for thethrone, Eteocles kills him, and is killed by same, simultaneously, in battle. He takes over the throne when he is old enough,and banishes Polyneices from Thebes.

Creon exiled Oedipus from Thebes after Oedipus killed hisfather and married his mother. Creon- He is Jocasta’s brother and the ruler of Thebes.Antigone states that she isinnocent, and therefore, Ismene is set free. After Antigone is captured by Creon, Ismene states that she helpedbecause she wants to be executed with her sister.
